Policy Area:
Priority:
Medium-Term
The RPC will legislate technical and non-technical requirements (e.g., audio/video watermarking, metadata source citations, digital signatures/certificates) to reduce the incredible potential for abuse of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as impersonation fraud and the spread of disinformation.
We will also enact new limitations on scenarios when and where AI cannot be used and rules governing AI decision making, especially as it pertains to self-modification and interactions with humans and the environment.
Policy Area:
Priority:
Short-Term
The RPC recognizes that rapid advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence have allowed for dramatic gains in operational efficiency resulting in shrinking of the manual and cognitive labour workforces. To ensure this is not exploited to the detriment of society and further expansion of wealth inequity, we will legislate an automation tax.
Policy Area:
Priority:
Short-Term
The RPC will entirely prohibit new purchases of Canadian housing by foreign entities (e.g., corporations, governments) and individuals, except for personal use by those with permanent residency (PR) status.
Additionally, we will impose a scaling "empty home" tax which increases each year to encourage existing foreign individuals that own housing in Canada to sell if they're not still living in it.
Foreign entities and individuals who own Canadian housing as investments will be forced to sell all their Canadian holdings and subject to taxation on these sales.
