We're just tiny bits of carbon on a little

Needs of the Many

More important than GDP growth and millennia-old religious debates, we are quickly destroying the only planet we currently have to live on.

The largest religions and most populous nations on Earth recognize climate change is the most urgent existential issue to face humanity right now.

Technology might outpace the problem and ultimately save the human species despite our ambivalence, but we can prevent the completely unnecessary suffering and death of billions by acting with urgency now.

Needs of the Few

Since before the industrial revolution began (~1760), the needs of the few ultrawealthy capitalists and their profits have been prioritized over the need to protect our planet. In our revolutionary ancestors' defense, they didn't foresee the extinction-level impact that burning fossil fuels would have on our planet, frankly, nor would many of them have likely cared even if they had known.

It's all the more depressing that more than 260 years later, despite the overwhelming modern science, many people still seem not to care or even believe.

To ensure our grandchildren aren't forced to live on a hostile planet, we will:

  • phase out fossil fuel exploration and pipeline development entirely

  • invest heavily in the cleantech and renewable energy sectors, including nuclear (fission and fusion)

  • research and construct new nuclear capabilities, where it is safe and practical to do so

  • nationalize power and guarantee every Canadian sufficient power for their personal needs

  • require large parking lots and other logical facilities to install solar panels to contribute to the public electric grid and reduce costs for individuals and families

  • require the development of government lands with high energy potential to install wind turbines to contribute to the public electric grid and reduce costs for individuals and families

  • increase the carbon tax by $25 per tonne each year for 8 years

  • invest in future climate technologies (e.g., terraforming, mesoscale and synoptic scale weather modification)

Serious Question:

“What is the use of a fine house if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put it on?”

― Henry David Thoreau
