ADDICTS AREN'T CRIMINALS

Let's treat them accordingly.

Join the Revolution.

The Portuguese Example

Portugal decriminalized drug possession and use in 2001, focusing on harm reduction, treatment, and rehabilitation instead of incarceration. Thanks to their brave example, we have more than 20 years of hard evidence in modern western society of the positive impacts such changes have on society.

We don't need to speculate about how this legislation might work; we already know. Obrigado, Portugal!

Since enacting these drastic reforms, Portugal has benefited by:

  • 80% fewer overdose deaths

  • 40% fewer drug-related incarcerations

  • rate of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses by drug users down from 52% to 6%

The Pain of Living

“The priority of any addict is to anaesthetize the pain of living to ease the passage of day with some purchased relief.”

― Russell Brand
